NECC Online

I started reading some of the NECC participants blogs today. It made me a little disappointed I couldn’t be at such an obviously inspiring and interesting conference, but also got me more excited about the Laptop Institute conference that I am attending in July. Some of them have detailed notes of sessions, others just highlights and observations, but they make for some interesting reading. Here are a few of the ones I have found most interesting so far……

Tech Ideas for 21st Century Schools - Detailed Blogs by a variety of contributors on sessions from NECC.

Nola Finds Her Bark - Gail has blogged from within various sessions - some great observations and links.
ITS Think Tank - Some really interesting discussions about school 2.0 and technology in education. I found this discussion interesting because we face similar issues in our program. We are trying to implement technology, but with a focus on the benefits to learning and thinking, not technology for technology’s sake. One quote that stood out for me was “One of the most thought producing things from the School 2.0 sessions I went to was that we are using technology in our district mainly to make School 1.0 flashy.” There are some wonderful benefits to be had from judiciously incorporating technology and Web 2.0 tools into the curriculum, but improper or shallow usage can just fuel the arguments against the use of technology.

Fascinating Video

Wow, this is an interesting video from the TED site……

NECC2007

As you know, I’m off to 2 education conferences in Memphis next month. But when the idea to attend a conference in the US that coincided with the ISGB ‘Gathering’ came up, my first thought was NECC. Last year they were very close together, but it turns out that was because the Gathering was rescheduled due to the New Orleans disaster. So, this year they are almost a month apart - just not do-able in the one trip.

Many of the participants, however, will be blogging about what they see and learn. And some of the sessions will also be aired via Podcast.

So, I’m planning on vicariously learning from these virtual NECC sessions, and I’ll probably share some links and comments here as I go.

Al Gore video

If you havent seen ‘An Incovenient Truth’ yet, then I strongly suggest renting the DVD, but here is a great shorter video of Al Gore presenting at a TED conference.

I was sent a link for an awesome video today, so I’m going to repost it here. Thanks again to Trudy for this one, I’m sure I will be showing it to colleagues a LOT!

I have just realised that as edublogs doesn’t allow embedded video, I have lost all the videos when I imported my posts from Blogger.  So, here is the link to the video on You Tube.
